Mia's appointment with the cardiologist

Mia's cardiology appt went well, and the Dr. was great. The cardiologist said that Mia does have a murmur, but it is a functional murmur (patent foramen ovale) and everything is normal. Her blood pressure was normal and they did a doppler echocardiogram, which showed the blood flow and blood vessels all to be normal. It was a huge relief to finally get some good news at the Dr.'s office. Mia now weighs 8 lbs 4 oz which is 5 oz more than she weighed on Tuesday. Thanks for all the support.

Mia Oh My!!

Well this motherhood thing is amazing and amazingly hard! Of course I expected the late night feedings, no sleep, and a million other things to drive me crazy but what I didn't expect was the jaundice and now the Dr is sending us to a pediatric cardiologist because they think she might have a heart murmur. When the last At Home nurse came by she said she heard a murmur so our pediatrician's office called us and asked us to come in and have the Dr double check. Heart murmurs are common in newborns but the Dr thought the murmur was not in the area where they normally hear it in a newborn. So Mia has her 3rd Dr's appt in less than 2 weeks tomorrow. I'm sure everything will be ok (a lot of people have heart murmurs and live perfectly healthy lives) but whew. Welcome to motherhood I guess. I love every minute of it and wouldn't trade it for the world. She really is a sweet baby and I love being her mom!

This is girl is pretty in pink, brown, blue, yellow... ok you get my drift!

Mia's super cute cherry dress from Sherstine is one of the only things that actually fits her right now!

Every once in awhile we get lucky and Mia smiles and giggles in her sleep "baby zen" state as I call it.

Don't worry I only let her sleep on her side for a second. She would sleep that way all the time if I let her I think.

Mia is Soaking Up Some Rays

Mia had her first Dr's appointment yesterday. She was a trooper but was pretty hungry so she cried most of the visit. When we left the hospital Tues Mia's pediatrician told us she had some jaundice but it wasn't too bad. Well when they checked it again at the appt yesterday her number had doubled so we had to have a at home health service bring a bilirubin light bed out for Mia to be in most of the time. If she isn't nursing or getting a diaper change she has to be in there. They also said her weight had dropped a little to 7 lbs 7 oz. I thought I would be so tough about the whole jaundice thing but when I saw Dave put her in that little bed it broke my heart. But I am very grateful that jaundice is something that can be taken care of and treated fairly easily. The At Home nurse stopped by this morning and weighed her and took some blood. She is already back up to 7 lbs 9 oz which is what they told us she weighed when we left the hospital. She is eating so much better and has a million dirty diapers now. I really think the light bed is doing it's job. Hopefully she won't have to stay in it much longer.
